Edgar H. Allen & Son, Inc. established in 1930 is a family owned and operated trucking company currently run by Christoper Allen Sr., Lee Allen, Christopher Allen Jr., and Courtney Tufariello (née Allen). We specialize in the transportation and sale of telephone poles - generally serving the tri-state area. We also transport other materials such as gas pipe, pallets, piling, crossarms, and more.
Our telephone poles meet the current ANSI 05.1 (2022) specifications which “provide minimum specifications for the quality and dimension of wood poles. ANSI O5.1-2022 was developed by the Accredited Standards Committee O5 (ASC O5) and published by the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA). AWPA is a non-profit organization that promulgates voluntary standards for technologies that protect wood from degradation“ (https://blog.ansi.org/ansi-o5-1-2022-wood-poles-specifications-dimensions/?amp=1).
Typically starting at 30’ in length (special orders are accepted as well) our telephone poles are Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) treated with CCA - which is a pressure-treatment with waterborne chromated copper arsenate (CCA) used to promote the longevity of our product.
We also sell and transport telephone poles treated with DCOI. The manufacturing of pentachlorophenol (PENTA poles) came to an end in December of 2021. The new alternative to this treatment is DCOI (The formulation for DCOI is 4,5-Dichloro-2n-Octyl- 4-Isothiazolin-3-One (CAS No 64359-81-5) - which is an organic oil-borne wood preservative user for utility poles.
Edgar H. Allen & Son, Inc. also offers wooden crossarms - which are mounted on telephone poles and used to hold up power lines or other equipment.
Another area in which we have extensive experience with is the sale of marine piling.
